Wasa Dredging has been dredging the harbour basin in Kemi Ajos during season 2021 and 2022. Works will be finalized during summer 2023. Project consists of widening and deepening of the harbour basin. This allows larger ships to serve the Port of Ajos and the new bioproduct mill which is under construction. 

Backhoe dredger Optimus was used during the 2021 and 2022 campaign for dredging the masses which varied from hard moraine to sandy soils. The masses was transported into a land reclamation site south of the harbour using towed barges where the barges was emptied using our EX1200 120 ton land excavator standing on the newly constucted multipurpose-pontoon Balder. When the project is finalized during Summer of 2023 a total of 680 000 m3 of masses have been removed. 

During 2023 works will be finalized with dredging of remaining masses and blasting smaller areas of bedrock.
